Great site! This is so needed. Congrats. We have a small big cat section on our public forum.

I developed an interest in big cats after seeing one just south of Meredith on the 16/9/07.

Two of us were driving from Geelong to Ballarat along the Midland Highway around 6.15ish near sunset time. I noticed something leap over the road, I instantly assumed it was a fox but knew that the colouring patterns and size were completely wrong for a fox. I asked our team photographer who happened to be int he car with me if he saw it, he said yes he had, we then we saw it sitting in the grass at the side of the road. However it was no fox. The tail wasn't pointy and the body was much larger. The top of the animal which appeared multicoloured but had black bits in the hair, as it moved it seemed wavy or fluid in movement.

The tail also seemed wavy and from memory it did appear to flick slightly up. I guess it was at least half to three quarters of the width of the road lane in length.

To me it seemed like a not fully grown adult version of a big cat type animal. I am not familiar enough with the variety of cats to know which one it was, but it was definately a large cat, appearing to not be fully grown. It was no feral type cat though.

We turned the car around to get a better look (and opefully a picture) but it was gone into a paddock and out of site.

It literally lept acorss the road in front of the car and dissappeared in the time it took us to drive a very short distance to slow the car down and turn it around.

The number of reports of big cats I have heard is astounding.
