EVIDENTIAl PHOTOS of Big Cats

Here we show just a few of our collection of photo evidence - some taken by ourselves, others sent to us.
Hover over each photo for our comments and analysis, to see what we believe to be the difference between what may have been a big cat, and what probably wasn't.

A grey kangaroo kill, probably by a dog. 7 Oct 2008.
Not a panther track as suspected by the finder. This is the spoor left by a macropod, probably a wallaby from the greater Geelong region. 10 Jun 2010.
Modewarre, 03/11/07. Teeth marks in skin of a suspended sheep carcase: Pictures of Puma dentition for comparison.
Modewarre, 16/08/08. Adult sheep, killed and eaten over two days.
North Eastern Victoria, 24/05/04. Adult Black Wallaby after remains were removed from where they had been buried in vegetation after being fed upon.
Bambra, 2005. Two views of a predated adult female eastern grey kangaroo found by Simon Townsend in State Forest. Her head, left fore limb, shoulder and ribs as well as the heart, lungs and liver were consumed. The carcase was so fresh that, though found at dawn, was still warm. The state of one nipple indicated that she had had a young at foot. It could not be located.
Second view of a predated adult female grey kangaroo found in the bush.
Modewarre, Winter 2007, a typically predated adult sheep, killed by neck and head trauma, then its heart, lungs and liver consumed. The gut had been removed some distance from the carcase

Modewarre 2008. Lambing ewe killed and eaten - lambs head still protruding from birth canal.
Freshwater Creek Autumn 2006. Young adult male goat, property of Simon Townsend. Killed by a bite to femoral artery; blood spray extended over 3 meters. Undecayed when located and probably killed by a dog.
Red Hill, 06/07/08. Portion of gut of sheep killed at this location on the same day carried 3 metres from the carcass and buried under grass.
Red Hill, 06/07/08. Ewe killed and partially eaten. Unusually, gut contents have been spilled and a portion carried away.
A sambar deer calf that is not a panther kill. This appears to be the remains of an animal shot by a hunter with all the gettable meat. The hind quarters and backstraps were removed then remains were left for minor scavengers to consume such as foxes, spot tailed quolls and wedge tailed eagles. These remains were found in north eastern Victoria on 16/06/2010 at approximately 1400hrs.
Wensleydale, April 2009. Adult Black Wallaby remains, still undecayed and pulled into cover.
Irrewillipe, Victoria, early autumn 2009; views of a Jersey cow with substantial bites and clawing to base of tail and flanks.
3 views of a calf suspected of being killed by a big cat and eaten over 2 days. West of Geelong in July 2011.
